BOX SCORE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Elena Tornikidou scored 25 points and Tamicha Jackson hit a clutch jumper with 12 seconds left as the Detroit Shock beat the Charlotte Sting 84-81 Sunday night. With Detroit leading 82-81, Jackson tied up Charlotte point guard Dawn Staley in the lane with 37 seconds remaining. On the ensuing jump ball, Staley was called for touching the ball on its upward flight, giving the Shock possession. Detroit (6-6) ran off most of the shot clock before Jackson nailed the jumper from just inside the 3-point line. Sting guard Andrea Stinson couldn't get a clear look as she tried to set for a 3-pointer at the key and her shot was partially blocked by Detroit's Dominique Canty and went out of bounds with 0.2 seconds left. The Shock led throughout the first half, never by more than six points. Charlotte (2-11) took the lead only once, at 18-17, after a 13-footer by Charlotte Smith with 10:16 left in the first half. But Jackson turned a steal and a deflection into consecutive breakaway layups to put the Shock back in control. Detroit led 53-50 at halftime, with Tornikidou scoring 16 points. Shalonda Enis led the Sting with 18 points and six rebounds, and Stinson scored 17 points. | ALSO SEE WNBA Scoreboard RECAPS Los Angeles 72 New York 67
