ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- This time, a bad start caught up to the New York Liberty.

One night after rallying from an 18-point deficit to defeat expansion Indiana, the Liberty trailed by 22 points in the first half and were handed a 69-57 setback by the Orlando Miracle.

New York gave up the first eight points on Friday and trailed, 55-37, in the second half. But Tari Phillips hit a layup with 1.5 seconds left for a 72-70 win.

The Liberty dug an early hole again tonight. Orlando scored the first nine points and opened a 28-6 cushion with 8:52 left before halftime. Shannon Johnson scored 14 of her 17 first-half points during that spurt.

The Miracle shot 48 percent (14-of-29) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes to gain a 39-25 lead. The Liberty were held to 31 percent (9-of-29).

New York again posted a second-half surge as a 17-3 run cut the margin to 44-42 with 11:40 left. Phillips scored seven points in that burst against her former team and Crystal Robinson buried a pair of 3-pointers.

But Orlando prevailed, thanks to an 8-4 run that restored a 64-57 cushion with 84 seconds left. The Miracle held on for their first victory in five meetings with New York.

Johnson had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Taj McWilliams added 16 points as the Miracle tied a season high with their third straight win.

Phillips scored 21 points but grabbed only six rebounds to end a streak of three double-doubles. Robinson added 12 points and Becky Hammon 10 off the bench for New York, which had a three-game road winning streak halted.
