PHOENIX (AP) -- Brandy Reed scored 24 points and Jennifer Gillom had 21 as the Phoenix Mercury dealt the Indiana Fever their fourth loss in five games, 79-65 Wednesday night. Phoenix led by just a basket midway through the first half, but scored 26 of the game's final 40 points. Michelle Griffiths added 16 points for the Mercury (16-9), who have won two consecutive games. Kara Wolters led Indiana (6-18) with 18 points, and Gordana Grubin added 13. Reed scored 13 points in a 15-4 Mercury run at the start of the second half, putting Phoenix up 51-38. But Grubin sparked a 9-0 Fever run as the Fever closed to 51-49 with 10:47 left. Gillom scored 16 points in the first half and the Mercury led 36-34 at intermission. Phoenix played with third-string point-guard Dena Head. Starter Michele Timms had knee surgery July 4 and is out for the season.
