KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- When their first eight batters all scored in one inning, the Kansas City Royals figured they must have come close to making major league history. "Has anybody ever done that before?" Brian Johnson asked Friday night after the Royals hit a team-record four home runs in an eight-run sixth inning en route to a 9-4 victory over Anaheim. "Man, that was fun." With Anaheim leading 4-1 in the sixth, Jermaine Dye and Mark Quinn hit solo homers off Seth Etherton, who was making his major league debut. Eric Weaver (0-1) relieved and gave up six runs and five hits without getting an out. "I think he was overthrowing and never really got in his groove," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He didn't get away with any mistake. Every pitch that was up, they jumped on it." The Royals had hit three homers in an inning 14 times in their history. The four homers allowed tied the Angels' record for an inning. "That was something," Quinn said. "He threw me a pitch down the middle and I hit it out -- and after that, fireworks. It's a lot of fun to watch." Johnson's three-run homer put the Royals ahead 6-4 and Carlos Febles added another three-run shot. "They've got some explosive bats, as you saw," said Scioscia, who was ejected along with Garret Anderson for arguing strikes in the eighth. Johnny Damon also homered as the Royals took a 1-0 lead in the first off Etherton, a first-round pick in the 1998 draft pick. He gave up Damon's homer and a double to Febles within his first six pitches, then retired 13 of his next 15 batters. Anderson and Darin Erstad homered for the Angels, who set a team record by raising their May home-run total to 42. Kansas City has allowed 82 long balls, the most in the majors. Anderson was ejected in the eighth for arguing a called strike, and Scioscia was tossed for the first time as Angels manager when he went out and fumed at plate umpire Tony Randazzo. "He said he thought Garret was showing him up. I didn't agree with that," Scioscia said. "Garret just shuts up and plays the game. I thought the umpire was far too aggressive for that situation." Chris Fussell (4-2) allowed four runs and five hits in six innings to win for the third time in four starts. Kansas City's Carlos Beltran, coming out of a season-long slump, had a triple and two doubles for his third three-hit game in five outings. Febles had a homer, single and double. Anaheim built its 4-1 lead on Anderson's two-run homer in the second, Ben Molina's RBI single in fourth and Erstad's solo homer in the fifth. Erstad went 2-for-4, and retook the AL batting lead at .379, two points better than Ivan Rodriguez of Texas. Game notesRicky Bottalico pitched three innings for his fourth save. ... Damon has led off a game with a home run 10 times. ... The start was delayed 71 minutes by a heavy thunderstorm. ... Rich Devine, fifth-year senior and popular outfielder at nearby Emporia State (Kan.) who batted .416 last season, was signed by the Royals on Friday. ...
