CINCINNATI (AP) -- Sammy Sosa can homer off anybody. Jason LaRue
seems to just pick on the Cubs.

LaRue had a career-high five RBIs to lead Cincinnati over
Chicago 7-6 Monday night. Three of LaRue's four home runs this year
have come against Chicago.
"I don't know why it is, but LaRue just kills us," Cubs
manager Don Baylor saud.
LaRue, making a bid for the starting catcher's job next year,
hit a three-run homer in the second and a two-run double in the
fourth, helping overcome Sosa's major league-leading 49th homer.
LaRue is considered a good defensive catcher and handler of
pitchers, but is hitting .192 since being called up from Triple-A
Louisville on Aug. 1.
"I'm not a home-run hitter," LaRue said. "Anytime I hit a
home run, I think it's an accident. I hit line drives, and
sometimes they carry out of the park."

Griffey will have MRI

Ken Griffey Jr. left Monday night's game
against Chicago after colliding at home plate with Cubs catcher Joe
Girardi.
The Cincinnati outfielder had walked and was trying to score
from first on a double to left field by Dmitri Young.
The relay by shortstop Ricky Gutierrez got to the plate well
ahead of Griffey, who crashed into Girardi.
Griffey lay on the ground several minutes before limping to the
clubhouse. Griffey had a strained left hamstring and was taken for
an MRI to determine if there was further damage.
Results of the MRI will not be available until Tuesday, a Reds spokesman said.

With Eddie Taubensee out for the year because of back surgery,
LaRue hopes the Reds will use him every day.
"I think if they do -- actually I know if they do -- I eventually
will be a good hitter in the big leagues as well as a good
catcher," he said.
Ken Griffey Jr. left with a strained left hamstring after

an MRI and will be evaluated Tuesday.
Pete Harnisch (7-6) gave up five runs and eight hits in five
innings with five strikeouts.
Danny Graves pitched the ninth for his 28th save in 33 chances,
allowing an RBI single to pinch-hitter Jeff Reed, then striking out
Jose Nieves to end the game with runners on first and second.
"I kind of feel like I was a nonfactor," Harnisch said. "When
a team scores six runs and the starter gives up five, that's not
good. The bullpen won the game."
Daniel Garibay (2-8) gave up six runs and six hits in four
innings as the Cubs (59-84) lost for the 10th time in 11 games,
dropping a season-worst 25 games under .500.
"At least we got some hits," Baylor said. "We just couldn't
get that last one. We were one short again."
Juan Castro hit an RBI double in the second ahead of LaRue's
homer, which made it 4-0.
Sosa homered in the fourth and needs just one more to become
only the third player with more than two 50-homer seasons, joining
Babe Ruth and Mark McGwire.
Girardi hit a sacrifice fly and Garibay singled in a run, his
first RBI in 14 at-bats this season. After LaRue's two-run double
made it 6-3, Julio Zuleta hit a two-run double in the fifth as
Chicago closed to 6-5. Zuleta was thrown out trying to stretch it
to a triple.
Harnisch, backing up the catcher, fielded a throw to the plate
and threw out Zuleta at third.
"That was a big play because I'm in a tough spot right there,"
Harnisch said. 'I'm not looking like I'm going to get anybody out
in the near future, and it would have been worse to have a man on
third -- or second, for that matter."
Alex Ochoa homered in the seventh off Steve Rain.
Game notes
Ricky Gutierrez twice lost hold of his bat in the third
inning, allowing it into the seats near the Cubs' dugout. No one
was seriously injured. ... Scott Sullivan's wild pitch in the fifth
increased the Reds' club-record and major league-leading total to
89. ... Jack McKeon got his 280th win as a Reds manager, moving
into ninth on the club list. ... The biggest ovation of the night
went to the big-screen replay of Pete Rose's hit No. 4,192. Monday
was the 15th anniversary of Rose's single that moved him past Ty
Cobb into first place on baseball's career hits list.
