With Phil Jackson taking over, the first thing he'll look for is guys who can play defense. Assuming the Lakers keep their scoring nucleus of Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and Glen Rice together, the team could use someone who can swing between the backcourt and frontcourt and who doesn't need to shoot to be effective. The team could also use an answer to its three-headed power forward question (J.R. Reid, Robert Horry, Travis Knight).
