BOX SCORE
ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Mikhail Shtalenkov made 32 saves against his former team and Shane Doan scored in the second period as the Phoenix Coyotes earned their first preseason win, 1-0 over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Shtalenkov, who spent his first five NHL seasons with Anaheim, helped Phoenix improve to 1-3-2 in the exhibition season. Guy Hebert almost kept pace, finishing with 27 saves as Anaheim dropped to 2-3-1. Shtalenkov stopped eight shots in the first period, 14 in the second and 10 in the third. His best save came during a Ducks' 5-on-3 advantage in the middle period as he snatched Oleg Tverdovsky's slap shot from the left point. Anaheim roookie Maxim Balmochnykh gave Shtalenkov a scare with a minute left, hitting the right goalpost with a shot from the right side. Doan scored the game's lone goal 6:17 into the second period. He intercepted a clearing pass by Ruslan Salei at the blue line and skated between the circles before beating Hebert low to the right side. Coyotes center Travis Green returned to the lineup for the first time since separating his shoulder on September 7. Phoenix center Jeremy Roenick and Ducks superstar Paul Kariya both sat out.
