BOSTON (AP) _ Kyle McLaren scored short-handed and Mike Knubel on the power play as the Boston Bruins beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 Saturday night. The loss was the first in eight exhibition games for the Sabres (7-1). The Bruins (6-3) who did not score short-handed last season, got their second of the preseason when McLaren beat Dominik Hasek two minutes into the game. Knuble's goal came with 2:51 left in the first period. The Bruins made it 3-0 at 6:43 of the third period on a goal by Sergei Samsonov. Maxim Afinogenov scored with 5:29 remaining for the Sabres. Boston goalie Byron Dafoe made 17 saves. Hasek made 22 saves.
