SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Monarchs relied on a balanced attack to win their season opener against the Cleveland Rockers, 70-65. Edna Campbell led four starters in double figures as the Rockers shot 56 percent (24-of-43) from the field, including 5-of-11 3-point attempts. Campbell scored 15 points on just three field goals, but converted 7-of-8 free throw attempts. Cleveland, which was playing its road opener, got 19 points from reserve Penny Taylor. Chasity Melvin led the starters with 16 as the Rockers shot 34 percent (26-of-76) from the field. The Monarchs took a 34-29 lead at the half and posted their largest lead, 63-44, with 6:56 to go on a 3-pointer by Stacy Clinesmith. Cleveland battled to within 65-60 with 37.5 seconds to play but got no closer as Sacramento scored five of the final six points at the line.
