RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Ben Grieve hit his first career grand slam in the 10th inning as the Oakland Athletics outlasted Eric Milton and the Minnesota Twins 6-2 on Saturday night.

Grieve's fourth homer of the season, off Eddie Guardado, gave him five RBI as the A's won for the fourth time in six games.

Milton allowed two hits in eight innings, retiring the A's in order in every inning but the fifth. He struck out eight and didn't allow a walk for the Twins, who lost their third straight.

Guardado (1-1) walked Olmedo Saenz to lead off the 10th and pinch-runner Rich Becker moved to second on Matt Stairs' single. Rookie Adam Piatt bunted for a base hit to load the bases.

Grieve then hit a 2-0 pitch 405 feet to right-center.

T.J. Mathews (1-1) got four outs for the victory.

Milton struck out Oakland's first five batters and was perfect until Saenz led off the fifth with a hard single.

One out later, Piatt hit an RBI triple, and Grieve added a sacrifice fly to tie it at 2.

Minnesota's Cristian Guzman led off the first with a triple and scored on Denny Hocking's groundout. Torii Hunter hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to give the Twins a 2-0 lead.

Minnesota's Matt Lawton hit a single in the first to extend his career-best hitting streak to 15 games. Lawton has hit safely in 18 of 19 games and is batting .378 (37-for-98).

Minnesota left 12 runners on base, with Guzman stranding seven of them. He struck out with two outs and the bases loaded in the fourth and sixth innings. In the eighth, he struck out with two outs and a runner on second.

Oakland rookie starter Mark Mulder allowed two runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings.
