BOX SCORE
PHOENIX (AP) _ Tyrone Nesby scored all of his game-high 11 points in the second half as the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Phoenix Suns 77-68 in both team's preseason opener Wednesday night. Darius Miles, who jumped straight to the NBA from high school and turned 19 on Monday, entered the game late in the first quarter and finished with 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting for the Clippers. Lamar Odom also scored 10 for Los Angeles. Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion each scored nine points to lead the Suns, who were without starters Penny Hardaway and Tom Gugliotta. Both teams struggled offensively. The Clippers shot 39.3 percent from the field and had 25 turnovers, while the Suns shot 32.9 percent with 20 turnovers. Odom's 3-pointer gave the Clippers a 38-18 lead with 8:31 left in the first half. But Phoenix, sparked by Marion's seven points and Paul McPherson's six, outscored the Clippers 33-9 over the next 16:45 of the second and third quarters to take a 51-47 lead with 3:46 to go in the third period. Despite shooting just 3-for-14 in the third, the Clippers took a 55-53 lead as Miles had a basket and a free throw to key a 5-0 run to end the quarter. The Clippers led by as many as 13 in the fourth quarter. Both Hardaway and Gugliotta are recovering from knee surgery. The Suns were also without reserves Tony Delk and Corie Blount.
