GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) _ David Wesley scored 20 points, including 14 in the first quarter, as the Charlotte Hornets beat the Atlanta Hawks 113-92 in an exhibition game Saturday night. Wesley scored eight points in a 10-0, first-period run that helped Charlotte take a 38-16 lead. The Hawks (1-2) never got closer than 20 points the rest of the game. The Hornets led 64-38 at halftime and increased their lead to 33 points in the third quarter. Jamal Mashburn added 19 points, Eldridge Recasner scored 14, and rookie Jamaal Magloire had eight points and a team-best 10 rebounds for Charlotte (2-1). Jim Jackson led the Hawks with 21 points. Chris Crawford and rookie Hanno Mottola had 13 points each. Hawks center Dikembe Mutombo sat out the game with a bad cold.
