ESTERO, Fla. (AP) _ Rick Brunson and Brian Grant made four free throws down the stretch as the Miami Heat held off Kenyon Martin and the pesky New Jersey Nets 85-79 Saturday night for their first preseason win of the season. Martin, the No. 1 pick in last June's NBA draft, led all scorers with 23 points and nearly brought the Nets back from a 15-point third-quarter deficit. Eddie Jones led the Heat (1-2) with 15 points and Tim Hardaway added 10 points and six assists. Miami led 77-67 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Nets cut the lead to 81-79 on a layup by Kevin Olie with 1:51 to go in the game. But New Jersey failed to on its final three field-goal attempts. Jones, acquired with forward Anthony Mason from Charlotte in a trade during the offseason, hit one of seven Heat 3-pointers in the first half as Miami jumped to a 49-41 halftime lead. Hardaway hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter and Dan Majerle came off the bench to sink 3-of-3 from 3-point range in the second quarter. Stephon Marbury added 12 points for the Nets. A crowd of 6,516 watched the first NBA preseason game at TECO Arena.
