RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ Rookie defenseman Mike Farrell scored with 5:18 remaining Saturday to give the Washington Capitals a 2-1 exhibition victory over the New York Islanders. Farrell got the game-winner 4 1/2 minutes after Mariusz Czerkawski gave the Islanders a 1-1 tie with his second goal of the preseason. Craig Billington stopped 34 shots for Washington, which won for the first time in the preseason. Peter Bondra set up both goals for the Capitals, including Jan Bulis' power-play score 13:03 into the opening period. John Vanbiesbrouck made 15 saves for the Islanders.
