WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Ticker) -- Bob Essensa returned to the site of his greatest success and backstopped the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-0 exhibition blanking of the expansion Minnesota Wild. Essensa played for the Winnipeg Jets from 1988-94 and ranks second in franchise history in most goaltending categories. Back at Winnipeg Arena, he stopped 34 shots, including 16 in the second period, as the Wild were handed their second straight shutout. Rookie Daniel Sedin and defenseman Zenith Komarniski each had a goal and an assist for the Canucks, who rested Markus Naslund and Ed Jovanovski. Brendan Morrison scored the only goal Essensa needed just over five minutes into the game and Brad Leeb made it 2-0 late in the second period. Manny Fernandez stopped 26 shots for Minnesota.
