Lynx defeat Rockers in overtime

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Katie Smith hit a 3-pointer with seven-tenths of a second left in overtime to give the Minnesota Lynx a 60-57 victory over the Cleveland Rockers on Saturday.

Cleveland's Rushia Brown tried to steal the pass from Andrea Lloyd Curry and missed, leaving the Lynx's leading scorer wide open on the right wing.

Smith, second in the WNBA in scoring with a 22.3-point average, finished with 15 points on just 3-for-9 shooting. She scored a career-high 34 points in Minnesota's 73-62 season-opening victory over the Rockers on May 31.

This time, Betty Lennox scored a career-high 28 points to lead Minnesota (8-4). She was 11-for-19 from the field, including a 5-for-8 performance from 3-point range.

Eva Nemcova led Cleveland (6-5) with 15 points. Her 18-foot jumper from the corner gave the Rockers a 57-54 lead in overtime.

Both teams had chances to win in regulation after Lennox tied the score at 53 with a 3-pointer with 48.7 seconds left.

After a Cleveland turnover, Lennox lost the ball out of bounds on her dribble with 7.6 seconds left in regulation.

Cleveland had two chances to win. Rookie Helen Darling missed a 15-foot jump shot and ball the bounced out of bounds with seven-tenths of a second left. The Rockers inbounded to rookie center Ann Wauters, whose hook shot fell short.

Lennox scored 11 points during a 15-4 run that gave Minnesota a 40-38 lead early in the second half.

Cleveland went 6:18 without scoring until Wauters converted a layup with 11:18 to play that tied it at 40.

Nemcova scored 13 points to help Cleveland to a 32-25 halftime lead.

Forty-eight fouls were call in the physical game, and referee Michael Henderson ejected two fans from front-row seats along the baseline with 9:30 remaining in the second half.
