NEW YORK (AP) -- Tari Phillips scored 22 points as the New York Liberty beat the Phoenix Mercury 82-69 on Wednesday night. Crystal Robinson and Becky Hammon each added 14 points to help the Liberty (6-7) to just their third victory in seven games at Madison Square Garden. Michelle Griffiths led the Mercury (8-5) with 17 points and Tonya Edwards had 16. Phoenix, playing the fifth game of its season-high seven-game road trip, shot 33 percent from the field. New York led 41-23 at the half, but the Mercury went on a 25-10 run to open the second period. Edwards made three 3-pointers in the spurt to bring Phoenix within 51-48 with 12:11 remaining. The Mercury trailed 55-52 after two free throws by Griffiths, but New York went on a 16-4 run for a 71-56 lead with 4:22 left. The Liberty shot 55 percent from the field in the first half as Phillips went 5-for-6 for 12 points. Phoenix made just seven field goals and shot 26 percent.
