BOX SCORE
MIAMI (AP) -- Sheri Sam had 24 points and nine rebounds as the Miami Sol defeated the Orlando Miracle 68-64 in double overtime Wednesday night. A starter in Orlando last season before being cut by coach Carolyn Peck, Sam opened the second overtime with a 3-pointer and closed Miami's scoring when she hit one of two free throws. Marlies Askamp had 20 points and 15 rebounds for Miami (13-19), which won three straight for the first time. The Sol also finished their inaugural season with six straight wins at home. Taj McWilliams led Orlando (16-16) with 23 points and 13 rebounds, and made a 3-pointer with three seconds left in the first overtime. Adrienne Johnson scored 13 points and Nykesha Sales added 12 for the Miracle, losers of eight straight road games. Miami led for most of the second overtime, before Sales scored on a layup to put Orlando up 64-63. The Miracle, which will face Cleveland in the first round of the playoffs, didn't score again. The teams were tied at 48 after regulation. Orlando had possession for the last 7.8 seconds and tried in vain to call timeout in order to set up a final shot. It appeared Miami had the game won in the first extra period when Marlies Askamp scored on a rebound of a miss by Katrina Colleton to put Miami up 55-53. However, McWilliams tied it with her 3-pointer. Colleton had 14 points and five assists. Miami, the lowest scoring team in the league, went almost seven minutes without a point in the second half. Neither team shot particularly well in the first half. Miami, which missed 20 of its first 29 shots from the field, took the largest lead at 18-12 with 10:15 to play. There were five ties in the half, the final one coming on a 10-foot jumper by Sam that tied the game at 24 at halftime. | ALSO SEE WNBA Scoreboard RECAPS Miami 68 Orlando 64
