Burba remains perfect vs. Anaheim

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

CLEVELAND -- Dave Burba pitched seven solid innings to win his fourth straight decision Tuesday night as Anaheim's defense helped Cleveland score three runs in the Indians' 6-1 victory.

Burba (5-1) allowed one run and six hits to improve to 5-0 with a 1.15 ERA in six career starts against the Angels. The right-hander has been Cleveland's steadiest starter this season, working at least seven innings in five of his last six starts.

Burba went out to the mound to pitch the eighth and made his warmup tosses before Indians pitching coach Dick Pole came out. After a short discussion, Burba was replaced by Scott Kamieniecki.

David Justice went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Omar Vizquel had two hits and two steals for the Indians.

Cleveland, ravaged by injuries this season, learned Tuesday that All-Star right fielder Manny Ramirez will miss at least a week with a strained left hamstring.

Ramirez was not available for Tuesday's game and could be placed on the disabled list Wednesday. The Indians already have seven players -- six pitchers -- on the DL and have had to make 21 roster moves since May 18 because of injuries.

Scott Schoeneweis (5-3) didn't get any help from his defense in his first career start against Cleveland. The left-hander gave up three earned runs and eight hits in seven innings.

Anaheim shortstop Benji Gil made two errors -- Nos. 12 and 13 -- this season and third baseman Troy Glaus had a costly error -- his 13th -- in the third inning.

Leading 6-1, Burba gave up consecutive one-out singles in the sixth inning before striking Glaus and getting Bengie Molina on a forceout.

Kamieniecki let Anaheim load the bases twice in the eighth but got Garret Anderson to bounce into a double play, and like Burba, retired Molina on a grounder.

The errors by Gil and Glaus helped the Indians take a 3-0 lead in the second.

Justice singled with one out and Alex Ramirez, starting in right for Manny Ramirez, hit a grounder that Gil kicked around for his 12th error.

Richie Sexson's hard grounder was fielded cleanly by Glaus, who threw wildly into right field trying to start a double play and two runs scored.

Sexson scored on Sandy Alomar's base hit to left. Alomar had missed the previous six games with a strained left hamstring.

Vizquel doubled to open the third, stole his second base of the game and scored on Roberto Alomar's RBI groundout to make it 4-0.

After Anderson singled and stole second in the fourth, Molina tripled off the wall in left-center with two outs for the Angels' first run.

Justice's two-run double in the sixth made it 6-1.

Game notes
Cleveland has won 10 of 11 against Anaheim. ... Indians 3B Travis Fryman grounded into his first double play of the season in the third inning, leaving Boston's Mike Stanley as the only player without a GIDP this season. ... Molina's triple in the fourth inning was his first in 236 career at-bats. He extended his career-high hitting streak to 12 games with a first-inning single. ... Glaus took out some frustrations in the Anaheim dugout after his second-innings error. He had made a costly error in Monday's game but later atoned with a game-winning homer in the 10th.
