GAME LOG
SEATTLE (AP) _ James Baldwin won for the eighth time in nine decisions, and Carlos Lee and Ray Durham homered as the Chicago White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners 2-1 on Tuesday night. Baldwin outpitched Paul Abbott (1-2), who made his first start since being hit in the face by Harold Baines' broken bat last Thursday in Baltimore. Baldwin gave up one run and four hits in seven innings. He struck out six and walked three in his first start since having his nine-game winning streak broken by the New York Yankees in his last start. Baldwin joined Pedro Martinez and David Wells as the only eight-game winners in the AL. He boosted his road record to 6-0 and lowered his ERA to 3.09, including 1.58 on the road. Keith Foulke pitched two scoreless innings for his ninth save in 10 opportunities. He has allowed one earned run in his last 24 innings. Abbott, who broke his nose and had eight stitches when he was hit by Baines' shattered bat, allowed four hits in seven innings, but two of them were solo homers. He struck out a season-high seven and walked none. Trailing 1-0, the White Sox tied the score with two outs in the fifth inning when Lee hit a 439-foot homer to center, his 11th of the season and second in two nights. With one out in the sixth, Durham hit a homer that bounced off the top of the fence and into the Mariners' bullpen in left to break the 1-1 tie. It was his seventh homer of the season. The Mariners scored in the third when Rickey Henderson walked, stole second and came home on Mike Cameron's single to right. Notes: The Mariners placed RHP Gil Meche on the 15-day DL with a strained shoulder. They recalled RHP Kevin Hodges from Triple-A Tacoma. Hodges entered the game at the start of the eighth. ... White Sox manager Jerry Manuel was scheduled to leave after the game to fly back to Chicago to attend son Anthony's graduation from high school. Bench coach Joe Nossek will manage the White Sox on Wednesday. ... Henderson, signed as a free agent by Seattle on May 17 after being released by the New York Mets, stole his first base at Safeco Field. Henderson's steal gave him stolen bases at 40 ballparks. ... Lee is 7-for-14 with two homers and six RBIs against Seattle this year. ... The White Sox got their first victory in five games at Safeco. ... Seattle's Edgar Martinez went 0-for-4, ending his 14 game hitting streak.
