Did you know?

  • Southwest Texas State center Jeff Foster was a first-round draft pick of the Golden State Warriors last season, and league coaches think other SLC players could follow in the next draft. Louisiana-Monroe forward Mike Smith, McNeese State guard Demond Mallet and Texas-San Antonio sophomore swingman Devin Brown all have NBA potential. League coaches also think Louisiana-Monroe sophomore Wojciech Myrda has pro potential with continued improvement.

  • Four of new Northwestern State coach Mike McConathy's former players at Bossier Parish (La.) Community College are in the league this year. Louisiana-Monroe All-SLC forward Mike Smith, Texas-Arlington All-SLC honorable mention guard Keith Greene and Sam Houston State center recruit Rosmel Blanco all played at Boss ier for McConathy, who brought forward Chris Thompson with him from BPCC.

  • The SLC has had four different NCAA Tournament representatives in the last four years: Northeast Louisiana in 1996, Southwest Texas in 1997, Nicholls State in 1998 and Texas-San Antonio in 1999. Only Nicholls State in 1995 (13) and NLU in 1993 (13) have been seeded higher than No. 15.

  • SLC teams went 16-1 against non-Division I competition last season, but struggled against D-I opponents, going 15-59. Conference teams really st ruggled against the big boys. SLC teams were 2-17 against the Big 12, 1-8 against Conference USA and 0-10 against the SEC.
