Did you know?

  • Alcorn State has probably the toughest non-conference schedule of any team in the SWAC. The Braves visit Southeastern Conference foes Arkansas and Louisiana State, Southern Mississippi of Conference USA, Oklahoma State of the Big 12 and will participate in the Lobo Classic Tournament on Nov. 26-27 in Albuquerque, N.M. Alcorn State's first-round opponent in that tournament will be Southern Conference power Chattanooga. A win would probably assure a game with host New Mexico the next night.

  • Texas Southern coach Robert Moreland is 51 wins shy of 700. Alcorn State coach Davey L. Whitney is just 13 wins away from reaching 500. Alabama A&M coach Vann Pettaway is nine wins shy of 300.

  • Texas Southern and Mississippi Valley State will participate in the Super Chevy Shootout on Dec. 3-4 in Iowa City, Iowa.

  • Grambling will participate in the Great Alaska Shootout on Nov. 24-27.

  • SWAC teams are 4-19 in NCAA Tournament play with Alcorn State claiming three of those wins.

  • The SWAC Tournament moves to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum on March 8-11 in Biloxi, Miss.

  • Texas Southern will participate in the Cougar Classic on Dec. 10-11 in Provo, Utah.

  • Last season, Southern's Adarrrial Smylie finished second in the league in scoring (19.0 ppg.), first in field-goal percentage (.563), first in rebounding (8.9 rpg.), fourth in blocks per game (1.63) and ninth in free-throw percentage (.732).

  • Alcorn State's appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season was the school's first since 1984.

  • The SWAC hasn't won an NCAA Tournament game since Southern upset Georgia Tech in 1993.
