DETROIT (Ticker) -- Brett Hull scored a pair of goals on almost identical shots, including a power-play tally with 6:49 left in the third period that lifted the Dallas Stars into a 2-2 exhibition tie with the Detroit Red Wings. Hull opened the scoring 17:15 into the first period, beating Chris Osgood with a blast from the top of the slot after Mike Modano won a faceoff in the Red Wings' zone. After Detroit came back to take the lead, Hull took a pass from Modano and one-timed a slap shot from the high slot that beat Osgood to force overtime. Ed Belfour played the first two periods for the defending Stanley Cup champions and stopped 24 of 25 shots. Manny Fernandez finished up with 14 saves as the Stars were outshot, 40-18. Tomas Holmstrom tipped in Nicklas Lidstrom's shot for a power-play goal in the second period and Vyacheslav Kozlov put Detroit in front midway through the third.
