MONTREAL (Ticker) -- Rookie Paul Comrie recorded a hat trick, including one of his team's two shorthanded goals, as the Edmonton Oilers rolled to a 5-2 exhibition victory over the Montreal Canadiens. Comrie, who played collegiately at Denver, set up Todd Marchant's power-play goal 5:11 into the opening period before scoring 2 1/2 minutes later. He tallied again 8:41 into the third period to make it 4-0 and completed the hat trick with a shorthanded goal with 3:33 to play. Marchant finished with a goal and two assists and Boyd Devereaux had the other shorthanded marker for the Oilers, who got a combined 28 saves from Bill Ranford and rookie Eric Heffler. Heffler came on 7:57 into the second period but lost the shutout midway through the third on Martin Rucinsky's power-play goal. Barry Richter also scored for Montreal, which was just 1-for-7 with the extra man while surrending the two shorthanded tallies.
